Argrath Intelligence TOP SECRET documents
file 54, classification 13-q
(The following items were confiscated from the Lortan City
"Sentinel" building by Law Enforcement and edited versions
were released in the morning paper. Law Enforcement was all
too glad to hand the information over to us -- U.P.)
headline: "IPHS Develops `Human Match'"
Inter-Planetary Human Simulations, a maverick company criticized by its
more conventional rivals, has finally developed what president Harold Werdt
calls "the ultimate human match." What Werdt was referring to is the new
"IPHS-3939/41-B," an amazingly humanoid machine; a perfect android. The device,
called "IP-39" for short, is powered by a highly advanced "Energy Synthesis
Drive," which actually allows the IP-39 to produce its own energy, much like
living beings, i.e. through an intake of nourishment, or food. IP-39 has near-
human intelligence, though it (he?) is a bit slower, and has a definitely
limited memory. The computers forming IP-39's "brain" are state-of-the-art,
says Werdt, and are not easily produced or quickly duplicable, so only one
IP-39 has been made, as a prototype model. Werdt says he hopes the IP-39 and
others like it will put his fledgling corporation in the black for the first
time since its formation six years ago.

headline: "IP-39 Stolen. Damaged, Dangerous?"
The famous IP-39 prototype, the only one in existence, which had proven to
to bring huge profits to the struggling IPHS company, has been stolen, by
individuals whom Harold Werdt, IPHS president, describes as "wanton terrorists"
working for an "enemy corporation." Werdt would not say if he blames
Amalgamated Automatons, the largest manufacturer of robots and androids in the
Free Planets, for the alleged theft.
However, Law Enforcement says the evidence points toward the machine's own
self-initiated escape, by force, and with substantial violence. Werdt calls
that report "ridiculous and entirely impossible."
Two security guards at the headquarters of IPHS, located in the Simpson
Building downtown, were slain by some form of electrical shock, which L.E. says
IP-39 is very capable of producing. One surviving guard has not been reached by
"The Sentinel" or by L.E., who say they are frantically searching for the man.
Also, signs of energy-gun blasts were evident at the site, the guards' guns
were found to be empty of energy, and were obviously fired. L.E. reported
finding bits of latex simu-skin on the wall near one large energy blast. Werdt
calls this finding inconclusive, as IP-39 could have been hit in a fight with
the alleged intruders. Werdt also refused to comment on the missing guard. L.E.
is attempting to gain a court order forcing him to talk, but L.E. admits that
could take days.
Law Enforcement says the IP-39, which you will recall is a human-like
android machine, is most likely dangerous and at large in the Lortan City
metropolitan area.
